• HIKE Foundation Matt Birk's HIKE Foundation was established in 2002 to provide the Twin Cities' young people with opportunities to pursue their dreams. The mission of the HIKE Foundation is to provide educational opportunities and resources needed to excel in the classroom and in life. Since its inception, the HIKE Foundation has raised nearly $400,000, which has been used to fund the Foundation's interactive programs and to provide education assistance.

Since 2002, Matt Birk's HIKE Foundation has awarded renewable $1780 scholarships to twelve Twin Cities-area High School Seniors. The HIKE Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee has selected its awardees based on financial need, excellence in the classroom and commitment to the community.

Since 2003, over 10,000 elementary students have participated in the HIKE Foundation's "Ready, Set, Read!" program. The "Ready, Set, Read!" has been designed to encourage Twin Cities-area children to read. The "Ready, Set, Read!" program challenges children to read for one hour a week in addition to normal reading assignments from their school for eight consecutive weeks. At the end of the eight weeks, students who complete the program will be given a gift certificate to a local restaurant and have the chance to win memorabilia and other prizes. In addition to the programs outlined above, each year the HIKE Foundation hosts its "Viking for Day" program where at-risk middle school students are treated to behind the scenes glimpse into the life of a Minnesota Viking, touch football game where Matt is the steady QB and each child joins Matt at a nearby restaurant for lunch. The HIKE Foundation also helps to fund literacy programs in Minneapolis Public Schools thru the "Newspapers in Education" program, has provided uniforms to at-risk youth football teams, has provided computers to local hospitals and provided general financial assistance to students and families in-need.

Matt is committed to being a positive role model for Twin Cities-area youth. He has established Matt Birk's HIKE Foundation as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and is looking for partners in his mission of providing young people with the educational opportunities and resources needed to excel in the classroom and in life.
